Background

Who am I?

Well, let me introduce myself. I am a Data Analyst and Scientist, currently based in Halifax, on the East Coast of Canada. Born in Muscat, Oman, I've spent a greater portion of my life in that region having completed all of my education there, up until I moved to Canada to pursue my masters in computer science.

I've been an avid tech-enthusiast ever since I can remember, growing up with  a parent working in IT. I was always fascinated by computers and all of their capabilities. I would often explore all that they had to offer any way I could, including trying out various applications and physically opening up computers - trying to figure out how they worked. I would like to think I am pretty handy with computers, being able to troubleshoot and build them as well. Initially, my passion for computers and the sciences, led me to pursue a bachelors degree in computer science at the Birla Institute of Technology's international center in Muscat.

It was towards the end of this program, that I started to garner interest in AI and Machine Learning, having taken some courses in that space. Primarily, when I first saw Google DeepMind's work in using Machine Learning to be able to diagnose a large variety of eye diseases, that is when I went down the rabbit hole to see all kinds of amazing applications of AI with the ability to effect real world change with its capabilities. The possibilities in the medical and healthcare domain peaked my interest the most. I then decided that I wanted to learn more and further my knowledge and expertise in Data Science and ML. I enrolled in the Master of Computer Science program at Dalhousie University, where I went on to complete courses in Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing and Data Mining among others. I then dedicated myself to doing research in the field of Machine Learning in healthcare. This culminated in an elaborate thesis on unsupervised learning in kidney transplantation. I've also co-authored two publications which were accepted to the MedInfo 2023 conference.

In order to further advance my skill and ability in data science and data analytics, I have worked on and continue to work on various projects and professional courses as much as I can, some of which are displayed on this website.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy playing video games, sports (soccer, badminton particularly), building computers and spending time with my family and friends. I also like to keep myself updated with the latest tech.
